Advantis Credit Union Announces Bob Corwin As New CEO

Milwaukie, OR (August 17, 2012) – The Board of Directors of Advantis Credit Union announced today that they have selected Bob Corwin to succeed Ron Barrick as President/CEO of the $930 million, Milwaukie-based credit union, effective October 15, 2012.  Corwin currently serves as the CEO of Wichita, Kansas-based Meritrust Credit Union.  Under his leadership, Meritrust Credit Union has grown from $550 million in assets in 2008 to $830 million today. Prior to that appointment, Corwin served as the Executive Vice President / Chief Operating Officer of First Tech Credit Union, then based in Beaverton, Oregon, where he spent over 30 years in all facets of the operation. “Bob is a well-known and highly respected industry leader with a proven record of delivering strong operating results.  The board saw Bob as a great fit to continue Advantis’ tradition of creating exceptional financial value for our members,” said Jake Jensen, Advantis Board Chair. “I am excited to return to my home state of Oregon and I am looking forward to the opportunity of serving as President/CEO at a credit union highly recognized for its member advocacy.  Advantis’ passion and commitment to their members is esteemed and I look forward to taking the next steps in fostering our members’ experience and relationship with us,” said Corwin. Ron Barrick, who served Advantis as President/CEO for over 25 years, announced his planned departure last September in order to give the board ample time to conduct an executive search.  “We’ve been very fortunate to have someone of Ron’s caliber to lead this organization,” Jensen continued.  “Advantis and its members have prospered under his leadership, even through some of the most challenging economic conditions since the 1930s.” From 2008 through June 2012, Advantis has realized annual average growth in membership of nearly 9%, deposits of over 18% and loans of almost 15%; while its assets have increased to $930 million from $500 million.  During Barrick’s tenure, Advantis has been recognized 30 times amongst its peers as the number one credit union in the United States in returning financial value to members by Callahan & Associates, a national research and consulting firm. “It’s truly been an honor to have served as President/CEO of Advantis.  We have an extraordinary team of officials and staff that have combined to achieve outstanding results for our members.  I’ll miss them all very much but I know that they and the organization will continue to flourish with Bob Corwin at the helm,“ said Barrick. Barrick and his wife Cindy, who is also a seasoned credit union executive, have formed Barrick Consulting, LLC., a consulting firm that will provide management advisory services for financial institutions.
