BrightStar Credit Union Names Michael Tomko President & CEO

BrightStar Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in South Florida with more than 54,000 members, announced today that credit union and banking executive, Michael Tomko, has been named its President and CEO. Tomko replaces Dr. Colin Battle, who was serving as interim CEO.

“We are very pleased that Michael Tomko has joined our team,” said Dr. Dorothy Orr, BrightStar Credit Union’s Board Chairperson. “Mr. Tomko’s personal philosophy of providing outstanding member service and always doing what is right for the members fits perfectly with BrightStar Credit Union’s philosophy of “people helping people.”

Before joining BrightStar, Michael Tomko was the Senior Vice-President of Operations at Community First Credit Union in Jacksonville, Florida. He began his banking career twenty-nine years ago as a certified fraud examiner; and, he has also worked extensively in operations, lending, and retail banking at organizations such as First Union, Colonial Bank, and First National Bank of Florida. He transitioned into credit unions when he joined Community First Credit Union in 2003. Tomko is a graduate of King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

An active community leader, Michael Tomko has served as vice-president of the Northeast Florida Chapter of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions, on the Jacksonville Florida Women’s Business Council Advisory Board, and on the Board of the Community First Cares Foundation. He believes strongly in giving back to the community. Tomko and his wife, Lisa, are animal rescue volunteers with more than a few animals of their own, all rescues.
