Firstmark Credit Union Selects Nathanael Tarwasokono as New President/CEO

The Firstmark Credit Union board of directors announces the selection of Mr. Nathanael Tarwasokono as the organization’s next President/Chief Executive Officer.  He will succeed Leon Ewing, who will retire in December 2015.

“Nathanael’s outstanding background, passion for the credit union mission, and shared vision for our members make him a great fit for our organization,” said Donald Pinson, Chairman of the Board. “We are extremely pleased to have him join Firstmark Credit Union.”

Established in 1932, Firstmark Credit Union is the oldest state-chartered credit union in San Antonio, Texas.  Today, it manages  $976M in assets and serves over 96,000 members throughout Bexar County and the surrounding area.

Tarwasokono has been CEO of Pima Federal Credit Union in Tucson, Arizona, since 2008. With $450M in assets, it is one of the largest credit unions in Southern Arizona.

As CEO, Tarwasokono charted a new course built upon the credit union’s traditions and past successes, while honoring the legacy of the previous CEO. Under his leadership, assets grew by 80% and the credit union maintained a 5-star rating from Bauer Financial for 28 consecutive quarters. The credit union also received numerous awards for its work in the community, including the prestigious Dora Maxwell Award and Community and Business Builder of the Year Award.

“Over the last nine years, I was blessed to work with an outstanding team at Pima Federal Credit Union and am grateful to have built relationships that will last a lifetime,” said Tarwasokono. “I am looking forward to opening an exciting new chapter in San Antonio with Firstmark Credit Union, building on the legacy of Mr. Ewing and working with the Board and employees to carry forward the credit union’s rich history and vision for the future.”  He will be joined in San Antonio by his wife and two sons.

Tarwasokono is a licensed CPA and is designated as a Chartered Global Management Accountant. His official start date with Firstmark Credit Union is November 16, 2015.
