New York, NY- February 7, 2019 – The Board of Directors of Lower East Side People’s Federal Credit Union (LES People’s) is pleased to announce the appointment of Maureen Genna as the credit union’s new President/Chief Executive Officer.
LES People’s is a nationally-recognized leader in the community development credit union movement. Founded in 1986, the credit union’s mission is to promote economic justice and opportunity, by providing high quality, affordable financial services and community development investments in low-income, immigrant, and other underserved NYC neighborhoods. The credit union serves a diverse membership and operates branches in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, East Harlem, and Staten Island’s North Shore. It has over $55 million in assets and since inception has made over $100 million in housing, small business, and other loans to members.

As a credit union professional in the Metropolitan New York area for over 30 years, Ms. Genna has served in roles ranging from teller to CEO. She was the Chief Lending Officer at Ocean Financial Federal Credit Union in Nassau County and, prior to that, served as CEO of the 1199 SEIU Federal Credit Union in New York City. Throughout her career, Ms. Genna has designed and implemented products and services that respond to needs articulated by members, such as citizenship and Borrow and Save loans. She has also made financial education for young people a personal and professional priority.
A lifelong New Yorker, Maureen was born and raised in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint section of Brooklyn. She earned an undergraduate degree in Economics from Barnard College of Columbia University and an MBA in Management from the Leonard Stern School of Business at New York University.
